High levels of contaminants found in two SWPA streams

The Center for Coalfield Justice has begun publishing monthly "SWPA Watershed Reports", through a partnership with the Observer-Reporter newspaper, Citizens Water Monitoring volunteers of local Izaak Walton League chapters, and area watershed groups. These first two reports show stream monitoring data in two "hotspot" locations that are negatively impacted by Cumberland and Emerald mine discharges.

Our 1st installment, featuring Whiteley Creek in Greene County, was published on Sunday, May 15, 2011, on Page B-5 of the Observer Reporter.

Our 2nd installment, featuring Smith Creek in Greene County (a tributary to Tenmile Creek), was published on Sunday, June 19, 2011, on Page B-3.

Click here to see the original layout of our Whiteley Creek publication (which the OR then edited to fit their style and format.)   Stay tuned for future reports and follow-up materials! The July 24th publication will feature the PA Fork of Dunkard Creek in Greene County.
